Dubai Corporate partner Brendan Hundt will speak at the 2025 Sustainable Aviation Futures MENA Conference on Feb. 10 in Abu Dhabi. Brendan will moderate the conference’s opening panel discussion on “Global Policy and Regulation: Unpacking national and regional policies supporting aviation decarbonisation and the ICAO CAAF/3 GlobalFramework” alongside Maryam AlBalooshi, State Lead Negotiator for Aviation Climate Change at General Civil Aviation Authority; Abdul Wahab Teffaha, Secretary General at Arab Air Carriers’ Organization (AACO); Ewa Oney, Team Leader for Sustainable Aviation at DG MOVE; Alison Graab, Executive Director at The SAF Coalition; and Fabrice Espinosa, Founder and CEO at Asia SAF Association.
The panel discussion will focus on exploring various decarbonisation methods (SAF, LCAF, alternative clean energies) eligible under the CAAF/3 Global Framework, and how they support emission reduction in line with the ICAO Vision, examining how industry standards and policies define bio-SAF and eSAF and what that means for their production, exploring global policies such as ReFuel EU Aviation, the U.S. SAF Grand Challenge, the UK's Jet Zero Strategy, Japan's SAF Initiative, and Australia's Bioenergy Roadmap for common goals and themes, and their impact on the Vision, discussing how the CAAF/3 Global Framework and national policies worldwide influence the development of policy in the MENA region, addressing the importance of aligning industry sustainability criteria and certification to facilitate global trade and use of SAF, and analyzing the roles of policy and industry standards in accelerating the commercialization and scale-up of next-generation SAF technology and how they interact.
