Talk im Turm – AML-Update: First Proposals to Define Standards under the New EU AML Package

On March 6, 2025, the European Banking Authority (EBA) launched a public consultation on four draft Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) on which the EBA will be providing advice to the European Commission and which will be central to the EU’s new Anti-Money Laundering/Countering The Financing Of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework.

The proposed RTSs focus on the following aspects:

(1) customer due diligence measures; (2) the criteria for deciding which institutions will be subject to the direct supervision of the new EU Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLA); (3) the methodology for assessing money laundering and terrorist financing risks associated with each institution; (4) sanctions or administrative measures for breach of AML/CFT rules.

At our breakfast seminar, we will provide an overview of the proposed standards and will examine selected aspects in detail and in the context of the current obligations under the German Money Laundering Act (Geldwäschegesetz, GwG) and the new version of the interpretation and application notes on the GwG, published also on March 6, 2025, by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin),

We look forward to discussing the benefits and drawbacks of the proposed standards with you.
